Viking Code of Conduct
We want to create a safe space that helps everyone to reach their personal fitness goals. We enforce this with the following Code of Conduct. You will sign and agree with this code before you can become a Viking. Failure to follow this code for reasons of nuisance, disturbance of others, moral turpitude or fraud, or if we determine that your actions may endanger yourself or others will be met with immediate response from the team (and yes we did have an AI do the goblin artwork, we’re gym rats not Picasso).
Support and respect the dignity of everyone regardless of race, political identity, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
1. RESPECT THE DIGNITY OF EVERYONE
We’re all coming from different backgrounds, but all of us are here to become better than we were before.
Give constructive feedback, ignore political views and stances, accept that people don’t always fit into your bubble, and enjoy a true sense of diversity. Gym time is lifting time, leave your differences at the door.
2. DO NOT DISRUPT SESSIONS
We all want to be heard, we all want to have fun. There can be a limit to this when it makes it harder for others to have fun too. Keep complaints, mean spirited comments, and excessive noise to a minimum.
Do not disrupt sessions with excessive complaints, mean comments, or noise
Give new Vikings the opportunity and space to learn
3. GIVE SPACE TO OTHERS
New Vikings are shy and need a lot more attention. You’ve been there before. Respect their need to catch up to you and help them by letting the shapesmith adjust their focus, you’ll be part of a constellation instead of the star that stole the show.
4. CHEER OTHERS ON
Our shapesmith are like cheerleaders with experience in moving heavy things, but we can only go so far. It is up to everyone to keep up morale and to encourage others to do their best at all times. In the end, people will like you more when you help build them up!
Encourage others to do their best at all times
Show up as early as you can for sessions and clear the floor when sessions end to allow the next group to join
5. SHOW UP EARLY AND CLEAR THE FLOOR
We all have tight schedules, and as our gym fills up it will be harder to accomodate sessions past their limits. We highly encourage you to show up at least 5 minutes early for your session so we can get started on time and you can get an extra warm up.
6. PROTECT OTHER VIKINGS
The team’s job is to look after your safety, but there are a lot of people in sessions. Take the time to help the shapesmith keep everyone safe. Learn to spot other Vikings, put your unused weights where they belong, and look out for each other.
Protect the health and safety of other Vikings
Do not repeatedly request song changes during group sessions
7. LET THE MUSIC PLAY
Sometimes the music doesn’t fit everyone. We reserve the right to change it at any time and to deny requests to change the music at any time. It’s not because we thing the music we play is better than what you want, it’s because it’s distracting and isn’t going to break anyone to let a song play to the end.
8. LISTEN TO YOUR SHAPESMITH
If you want to stay safe, if you want to hit your goals, if you want to grow and learn, then you need to listen to your shapesmith . Missing instructions takes time away from the exercise and puts you and others in danger. Keep an eye on the shapesmith and make sure you are within earshot.
Focus your attention on your shapesmith when they provide instructions
Share the floor so that everyone can have the space and opportunity needed to learn and grow
9. SHARE THE FLOOR
You are not the only one on the floor. Earlier we talked about sharing the sound and time, now we’re talking about the space. Do not physically take up more space than necessary for your lifts, and do not encroach on the space of others. Make sure your unused equipment is put back where it belongs so no one trips on it, and make sure you are taking one for the team more than for yourself.
10. LET US KNOW
The last thing we want is to find out there is a problem the day the straw breaks the camel’s back. When you wait to tell us what’s going on, it goes from a solvable problem for the group to a problem with you . If you wait too long to bring things up, You may be perceiving compliments as insults, form corrections and concerns for your well being as attacks, or questions as interrogations.
That is an awful way to live. Don’t do that to yourself.
Talk to us immediately when you notice violations or problems. Give us feedback. Let us know how we’re doing. Let us know how you’re doing. We’re here to grow as much as you are.
Promptly inform staff of code violations or of possible internal issues during sessions
