Knowing who to trust in our current social-media and AI filled world can be an absolute headache.
I regularly have consultations with new clients telling me they’ve started drinking raw milk or cut out carbs/fats/fruits completely.
This is not a good thing.
On the other hand, many of my current clients have raised concerns that they really don’t know who is trustoworthy anymore.
When a person with a medical doctorate tells you not to deadlift because a spine doesn’t look like it should move that way, my clients question why they’re in our programs.
The answer is because the doctor has no idea what she’s talking about.
When a politician says Riboflavin should be removed from our foods, my clients reach out and ask me about this “new poison Riboflavin”.
Riboflavin, by the way, is vitamin B. Defficiency in Riboflavin “can cause fatigue, swollen throat, blurred vision, and depression. It can affect the skin by causing skin cracks, itching, and dermatitis around the mouth. Hyperemia and edema around the throat, liver degeneration, and hair loss can also occur along with reproductive issues” –nih.gov
Now we have legions of people afraid of flouride, aspertame, vaccines, carbohydrates, food dyes, sugar alcohols, pesticides… the list goes on.
And you should be skeptical, but you should also have been taught how to do proper research on a topic.
I have met Registered Dieticians, Personal trainers, Doctors, Nutritionists, and chiropractors who make it clear they don’t want to do the research on these topics.
But they will then post lies to their respective audiences and make a sale for an “all natural” supplement who’s dosage is basically placebo.
Needless to say, I have some job security here. So I want you to know, at Bjorn we have a commitment to transparency about nutrition, health, and wellness.
So often trainers choose not to do the hard work, knowing full well that the “woo woo” stuff sells the idea that the client is not responsible for their own health and that it pays the bills so much faster.
We’re more worried about educating people with what actually works.
And here’s the weird thing, it all can work in the beginning. For the first year or two you can do any “woo woo” treatment you like, and as long as it puts you in the Caloric intake that will push you towards your goal, you’re all set.
But after that, you need the truth. You need someone who can take the time to guide your understanding. You need someone to say “for your goals, there’s no reason to worry about red dye”, or to ask you why something is important to you.
It is our vow to be that guide on your adventure. I hope that’s okay.
